Come and see the most beautiful objects of our night sky exhibited in the cosy Campsie gallery in the midst of the natural beauty of Mugdock Country Park.
The Astronomical Society of Glasgow has its observatory, called ETMO, in the park and many of our images were taken there in the long and frosty nights of recent winters.
You will see the bursts of colour of the Aurora Borealis and majestic prominences larger than the Earth rising above the surface of our nearest star, the Sun. Further into deep space, examine the remnants of a supernova that our ancestors saw almost a millennium ago,and see if you can spot stars on the verge of forming in the stellar nurseries of emission nebulae.
The Astronomical Society of Glasgow has been bringing the science and passion of astronomy to the public since 1894. Experienced members of the society will be present for events throughout our exhibition and will happily explain the images on display and how we took them.
If you like what you see and want to learn your way about the night sky or even learn the science and art of astrophotography yourself, you can. Our society is open to all and no experience is needed; only a desire to learn more about our wonderful universe and share it with others.
The exhibition runs from Thursday 10th September to Sunday 22nd November and is open when the park is open.
The exhibition is in the Campsie Room of the Mugdock Country Park Visitor Centre.
